Recurrent Erosion Syndrome

Recurrent painful episodes typically result from previous corneal abrasions but may occur spontaneously in patients with predisposed abnormal corneas. The episodes generally occur at night or upon awakening in the morning. This condition results from a breakdown of the surface layer of the cornea causing a painful "scratched" cornea. Treatment options include medications and minor surgical procedures.
